Medicines in School and Information

MEDICINES AND DRUGS

If possible, all medicine should be administered at home.  Only medicines that have been prescribed by a doctor should be administered at school.  Your attention is drawn to the Education Board’s Policy in which a note of authorisation from parents is required before medicine is administered.  No medicines will be administered unless school receives a completed Administration of Medicines form (available below or from the school office).

Children recovering from an illness should not administer any drugs to themselves.  All medicines or drugs must be clearly named and taken to a member of staff with clear details of the administration of the correct dosage, the illness, the date and the name of the medicine.

ILLNESS

If your child is unwell, please phone the school office on 01481 226060 or email smp.office@education.gg stating the reason for your child's absence.

Please note that if your child has vomited or had diarrhoea they should not come back to school until 48 hours after the last time they have been ill.

ACCIDENTS AT SCHOOL

In case of an accident at school, Education, Sport and Culture is prepared to cover the cost of an emergency ambulance. However, parents will be liable for a payment of £25.00 at the time of consultation to the Emergency Department or GP surgery as required, irrespective of responsibility.

The Children’s Dental Service will offer emergency dental treatment and follow-up dental care to a child injured at school or during an after-school activity provided contact with the service is made within 24 hours of the event. The follow-up treatment will continue until the child is 12 years old.

Head Bumps

If your child receives a bump to the head, you will be notified via Class Dojo.  If the first-aider feels the head bump or injury is more serious and needs further attention, you will be contacted by phone immediately advising you of this.

Please ensure your contact details are up to date.
